Brazil: IMEA forecasts Mato Grosso production
IMEA (Mato Grosso’s agronomic institute) has issued an initial forecast of production from the 2024/25 crop, planting of which will take place either side of the year-end. Prospective area in the state is estimated at 1.56 million hectares (a rise of 6.9 percent, in line with the rate of national expansion anticipated by ABRAPA, the cotton producers’ association). IMEA notes that next season’s yields will be influenced by a range of factors, including climatic conditions, as well as the incidence of pests and diseases. Based on a weighted average of yields over the past three years, lint production in the state is projected at 2.77 million tonnes, a rise of 4.1 percent from the season just ended.
