Brazil: picking in Mato Grosso
The harvest has continued to make rather slow progress in the main producing state. By the end of last week, picking in Mato Grosso was complete on just over eleven percent of the state’s cotton area, according to the Instituto Mato-grossense de Economia Agropecuária (IMEA). That figure compares with almost 32 percent at the same point a year earlier (when the movement of the crop was early) and the five-year average of about 22 percent. Operations in Bahia and other producing states are further advanced.
