India: local prices and arrivals

Prices for new crop lint have increased in the north of the country and are steady elsewhere. Shankar-6 is still quoted at an average of ₹82,500 per candy (approximately 132.20 cents per lb) ex gin, and J-34 from Haryana at around ₹8,325 per maund (127.10 cents per lb).

Today’s estimate of arrivals is 10,600 lint equivalent bales, including 5,500 in Andhra Pradesh, 2,400 in Karnataka, 1,200 in Haryana and 500 in Gujarat. However, an increase in the pace of deliveries is being hampered by wet conditions in the centre and west of the country. Widespread rain over Maharashtra and Gujarat is forecast to become more scattered over the weekend.
