Australia: October’s raw cotton exports
Raw cotton exports during October amounted to 66,542 tonnes, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, down from the heavy shipments recorded during the previous four months, but higher than the total (46,340 tonnes) for the corresponding month a year ago.
For the third consecutive month, a sizeable quantity (26,115 tonnes) was categorized as destined for ‘unidentified country’. However, as in August and September, no exports were attributed to either China or Indonesia, which are two typical export markets. Of the major destinations that were clearly discernible, Bangladesh accounted for the greatest volume (14,503 tonnes), closely followed by Vietnam (14,407). Thailand accounted for 6,357 tonnes. More modest quantities were shipped Pakistan (1,451), Japan (1,207), South Korea (778), India (739), Malaysia (500) and Taiwan (473).
