Harvest progress in Kazakhstan

Good weather conditions remain a driving force for harvest progress in the cotton producing belt of South-Kazakhstan province.  According to some estimates, around 80,000/90,000 tonnes of seed cotton have been gathered to date.  The potential crop, if conditions remain favourable until operations are complete, could be in the region of 180,000 tonnes, from which some 55,000 tonnes of lint might be pressed. This would be slightly more than last year’s lint outturn, despite the reduction in planted area this season. Better yields than expected this season are attributed mainly to the hot conditions that prevailed during the second half of the summer.
