Southwest monsoon makes landfall over Kerala
The Southwest monsoon has advanced to make landfall over Kerala, around five days behind schedule. The northern limit now passes through Tamil Nadu and southern Karnataka. Scattered thunderstorms have been in evidence over most of the cotton belt and convective clouds are gathering over the Northern Zone, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
According to the Meteorological Department, conditions are favourable for the further advance of the monsoon into the remainder of Tamil Nadu, the Arabian Sea, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, in the next 48 hours.
